Tweets to be archived in Library of Congress

Twitter has unveiled that every public tweet post will now be archived at the Library of Congress. The archive will go back as far as 2006, which is when Twitter came about.

The archive will be held digitally with the federal library.

The idea behind the archive is to document the many significant tweets and gather how people live their lives through Twitter.

According to Twitter, a staggering 55,000,000 tweets are sent every day. So the numbers involved in the digital archive will run into 100’s of billions.

However, private tweets will not be included in the digital archive.

Some of the more notable tweets in history will include Barack Obama’s messages after his election win in 2008.

At the time of writing, Twitter has over 100,000,000 registered users.
